physical development for teenagers

a program suitable for boys and girls between the ages of 12-18

Adolescence is characterized by the dramatic changes that take place during an individual’s transition from childhood to physical maturity. The teen years are the time in which height and weight increase at a rapid rate. Boys put on muscle weight, while girls put on weight due to body fat. This can cause anxiety in many girls, who feel peer pressure to be thin. These changes can also result in clumsiness as different parts of the body grow at different rates, thus making it difficult for an individual to cope with the changing lengths of arms and legs. It is not until the early 20s that the brain reaches its full development. Neuron connections are still forming during the teen years, and this can lead to emotional and mental lapses in judgment. In addition, the developing brain contributes to impulsivity. Learning to control impulses, emotions and judgment is an important part of a teen’s physical development.

Proper exercises can help teens feel better about their changing bodies. As a parent, it is your responsibility to help your teenager to create and sustain a gradually escalating exercise routine. This approach can help your teen gain confidence and make him or her more likely to keep exercising throughout their lives. Teenagers benefit from exercising just as much as adults do, as it makes their muscles and bones stronger, and it makes them feel better about themselves. This is especially true if the right approach is supporting this development, like the one offered in this program. We apply our main principles to all our programs.
